Budget and Spending
I was asked to serve on the HCPS Budget Advisory Committee in the fall of 2013. That experience gave me the opportunity to study the budget and work with the finance staff to prioritize spending. We must effectively and efficiently prioritize the HCPS budget to focus on student achievement, funding instruction and lowering the pupil-teacher ratio in our schools. Large class sizes lead to frustration on the part of students and teachers alike. Reducing class sizes enables students to receive more individualized and targeted instruction. A reduction in pupil-teacher ratios has a direct correlation to an increase in student success, including improved SOL scores.
I am interested in maximizing the money that we spend and making the budget process more transparent.
