Meet Micky Ogburn...

I am an educator with 20+ years of teaching experience in pre-school, 2nd, 5th, and 6th grades. I graduated from Longwood College with a BS in Elementary Education and a Minor in Secondary History Education.  My family moved to the Three Chopt District in 1994 where I have been an active community volunteer. For seven years, I was an Intervention teacher at Short Pump Elementary School in the Three Chopt District of Henrico County.  Intervention teachers help students improve their reading and math skills  thus helping them achieve their highest potential in the classroom. This experience was very rewarding and set the tone for what I want to accomplish on the School Board.

I came to the Henrico County School Board in 2014 with a thorough understanding of HCPS from the teacher, volunteer, and parent perspectives. Since then, I have frequently collaborated with constituents, parents, students, and the faculties of all 17 schools in the Three Chopt district.  I am in the schools often working with the children and teachers and attend a faculty meeting in every Three Chopt school each year. My goal is to connect with citizens and listen to their concerns and joys.

In addition to my HCPS School Board duties, I serve as the Vice-Chairman of the Regional School Board of the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School,  The ESL Advisory Board, and The Henrico Education Foundation Board.   It is essential that we work together to make our schools the best that they can be for our students.

I can state quite confidently that she understands the challenges of today’s parents, schools and the work of the administration and school boards in serving and preparing our youth for the challenges of tomorrow.
